Layer: Paleochannel Lines (ID: 2)

Name: Paleochannel Lines

Display Field: FeatureName

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolyline

Description: The Paleochannel (PaleoChannelArc) layer contains lines delineating paleochannels existing under the surface of the seafloor. Paleochannels are remnants of river and stream channels that have been filled with sediments and overlain by younger units. Paleochannel lines in this layer are delineating either the outer extent of a widespread feature or they are tracing the centerline of a linear feature. Paleochannels and other subsurface geologic features are identified as a result of geophysical surveys utilizing sub-bottom sonar, seismic reflection profiles, coring, etc. The features gathered into this MMPGIS layer were acquired from multiple investigators and projects, whose research on or around the outer Continental Shelf (OCS) was funded fully or partially by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). The intent is to build upon the dataset as new reports and data become available. Data from pre-existing reports will be added to the dataset as time permits. Attribution consists of feature description, location, age, and identification properties associated with each study.
