This system is for authorized use of the MMIS to view and download public releasable BOEM Marine Mineral Program datasets through the MMIS viewer from federal, state and public users. This application is intended to aid ocean use planning and development of potential agreements for sand from the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). Users have no explicit or implicit expectation of privacy. Any or all uses of this system may be intercepted, monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected, and disclosed to authorized site, law enforcement personnel, as well as authorized officials of other agencies. The public may reference this information with the understanding that users may view, download publicly released marine minerals information associated with offshore sand resource evaluations, studies and leasing, that the information is compiled from a variety of sources and contains data currently under development and may not be complete, accurate or up to date. For example, identified sand / sediment resource delineations displayed in the MMIS viewer represent interpretations based on data with spatial and temporal resolutions that vary based on individual studies conducted in those areas. Seafloor sediments are inherently dynamic and may migrate outside of delineated resource polygons. Thus, these polygons are not precise delineations defining limits of mineral resources. Furthermore, areas that have yet to be explored and/or contain limited or low-quality data may contain significant sediment resources that have yet to be delineated. BOEM has made efforts to ensure accuracy and reliability of the data; however, some errors may exist. BOEM appreciates notification of any errors, and these should be reported to the BOEM Office of Public Affairs. The data may not be duplicated or distributed without BOEM authorization.
The information on the MMIS viewer is intended for general information purposes only and is not to be construed as legal advice. For legal compliance purposes, please consult the appropriate statutes and regulations. The application and effect of laws can vary widely based on the specific facts involved. For interpretation of the appropriate statutes and regulations to your individual needs, please consult a competent attorney.
